The Chambers Academy boys (3-12) fell to Eastwood, 59-58. CJ Lyons and Payton Allen led the Rebels with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

The Chambers Academy boys and girls will conclude area play tonight at East Memorial Christian Academy in Prattville. Later this week, they will compete in the region tournament.

Springwood School

Senior guard Gus Davidson poured in 22 points, but the performance wasn’t enough to lift the Springwood Schools boys (8-11) over Lee Scott Academy on Saturday. The Wildcats fell on the road, 55-44.

Head coach Drew Dorsey said his team played well enough to win, as it pulled to within seven points late in the game, but turnovers and a lack of rebounding doomed it down the stretch.

Christian Lancaster joined Davidson in double figures with 12 points.

The Springwood girls (14-5) also came up short, dropping a 42-25 decision to Lee Scott. The Lady Wildcats entered the matchup as the state’s fifth-ranked team in AISA. Lee Scott entered ranked third.

The Lady Warriors made five 3-pointers early to take a 28-9 halftime lead, which Springwood couldn’t overcome. Amaya Battle recorded a team-high 14 points in the loss. McKayla Barber and Andie Martin chipped in six and five points, respectively.

“We knew we would have to play a near flawless game and we just made too many mistakes today,” Springwood head coach Rick Johnson said.

The road forward will not become any easier. Tonight, both Springwood squads will host Glenwood School, which boasts the state’s top-ranked girls team, in their regular-season finale. The region tournament starts later this week.

Scheduling update

Many area schools have rescheduled games that were postponed last week due to Winter Storm Inga. In addition to Chambers and Springwood, the varsity squads from Beulah, LaFayette and Valley all will be in action tonight.

Beulah will play at area opponent Randolph County, LaFayette will travel to Russell County, and Valley will play at area opponent Beauregard.
