Beulah

Junior point guard Kensley Taylor scored 14 points to lead the Beulah High School girls basketball team (4-8) to a 47-44 win over Class 3A, Area 6 opponent Randolph County on Monday. It was the team’s first victory since the turn of the year.

Alicia Hodge and Briana Brown added nine and eight points for the Lady Bobcats, who improved to 2-1 in the area.

The Beulah (5-7) boys fell to Randolph County, 71-34. The loss snapped the Bobcats’ two-game win streak, as they fell to 1-2 in the area. Lonzie Portis had a team-high 14 points.

Both teams will return to action tonight at B. B. Comer.

Chambers Academy

Freshman Britten Stephens recorded 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to propel the Chambers Academy girls basketball team past East Memorial Christian Academy on Monday. The Lady Rebels (8-11) fell on the road, 50-45.

Chambers Academy trailed by as many as 20 points in the game before mounting a comeback that ultimately came up short. Shelly Keebler and Tate Reese joined Stephens in double figures with 11 points apiece.

The Chambers Academy boys (3-13) also lost to East Memorial, 73-56. Freshman Payton Allen posted a double-double in the defeat, scoring 22 points and securing 10 rebounds.

The game served as the regular-season finale for Chambers Academy. Both the boys and girls will begin play in the region tournament later this week.

LaFayette

Feliah Greer put forth a herculean effort on Monday. The LaFayette High School freshman recorded her second triple-double of the season with 29 points, 25 rebounds, 10 steals and seven assists in the Lady Bulldogs’ 73-69 overtime loss at Class 6A Russell County.

LaFayette (10-10) missed 16 free throws in the contest, hurting it down the stretch.

The LaFayette boys (14-7) also dropped their decision, 75-50. Sophomore guard Corey Boston scored a team-high 21 points in the loss. Markevious Moore added 12.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will return to Class 2A, Area 8 action tonight at home against Horseshoe Bend.

Valley

The Valley High School girls basketball team (6-8) snapped a two-game losing streak on Monday. The Lady Rams took down Class 5A, Area 5 opponent Beauregard on the road, 39-31.

Ana Magby and Arteria Florence contributed 14 points apiece for Valley, which scored 16 points in the final quarter to pull away. The Lady Rams are now 2-1 in the area.

The Valley boys (10-9) also downed Beauregard, 59-53, to improve to 2-1 in the area. Davontrez Daniel and Keionte Dent tallied 15 points apiece in the triumph. Markevious Booker had 13 points to go along with five rebounds, six steals and two assists.

Valley will return to action tonight at Russell County.
