Cold temperatures have affected everyone, pets included

Hello Huguley friends. It is certainly know you have survived the recent days of subnormal temperatures. We have done pretty well going through the cold. My dogs are getting rather used to being inside at night (which I don’t really like) but, it has been so cold I hated to make the little ones stay outside. The big dogs can hardly be enticed to come inside. The only time Copper came inside was when the neighborhood was really having a blast shooting fireworks. He is a big dog, but really hates the sounds of fireworks! He came inside twice that night, but, the next day I couldn’t drag him inside.

Can I make a completely personal observation here? Willard and I along with Billy Martin traveled out of town last Friday evening and were on our way back toward the Valley when this happened to us. We were on 280 heading from close to Sylacauga headed to Opelika doing the speed limit (or close) when two cars, one an orange Mustang and the other a darker Dodge Charger tried to box us in. Both were driven by young men. Windows were tinted very dark on the orange Mustang. They sped up, gunning their engines, passed us and slowed down, then swapped places. They did this several times and although we had had to slow down to let them pass, they didn’t pass. They kept right up with us, gunning their engines and just acting like little jerks. We do not try to get involved in playing on the roadways and certainly want to avoid any actions that could result in Road Rage. I did what I considered the safest thing to do. I called 911 and within a couple of minutes the two car loads of boys had dropped back to probably 45 mph and we went on our way. We didn’t see a police car, but, we felt one was in the vicinity close by. Please do not play chicken or whatever they might have been doing. It could have resulted in someone getting hurt terribly in a wreck, or being run off the road, or worse. Be safe young people. We may not know you, but, we have grandchildren your age and it would devastate us to get a call in the middle of the night that something terrible had happened. Think of your families too.

I knew it wouldn’t take me long to get a couple of other Christmas things in to the paper.  I know most of us celebrated the recent Christmas holidays during the actual week of Christmas. Some folks couldn’t do that so they celebrated when they could. The family of Rusty and Mary Terry managed to finally get over their flu and have Christmas at their home. I’m sorry I had to hold this one for another week or so but the whole family was down with the flu during the Christmas week and they only just got together in the last week or so to do their family Christmas. The home of Rusty and Mary Terry hosted their family gathering last week it was a great time for everyone as they grilled out some really pretty steaks. They also had creamed potatoes and a salad and some trimmings I’m sure to all of the kids brought something. They had a good time as they exchange gifts and Mary and Rusty were the recipients of a very nice gift from all of the children. The kids got together and gave their parents a cruise trip to Cozumel Mexico and they’ll be taking that sometime in the future. Part of the kids that were there for this day stay the night as others went on their way to other family members homes. Attending were Abby and Evan Hengveld, , Emily, Owen and Jack, Russell and Sherrie Terry, Molly and Colt Terry, Andrew and Sierra Terry and Chelsea ,Rachel Terry and Nick Beasley. Sounds like a good time was had by all.

Happy Citizens from Happy Valley Baptist got together for their regular monthly meeting last Tuesday during the noon hour. They actually got started a tad early and got finished early as well. People had the chance to get on with their day after having a great lunch and fellowship together. Attending were Bob younger, Susan and Willard Eason, Jerry and Janice Carmack, Jeanette Tilley, Pearl Taunton, Faye Tines, Gene and Eva Monroe, and John Samanie.

Vashti #431 Order of the Eastern Star had a great time at their regular meeting this past Thursday. But that is nothing new. We usually do. If you have ever been a member of the OES, we would certainly enjoy seeing you again.  We still meet in the same place in Lanett. The only change is this. We now meet at 7pm instead of 7:30 on the second and fourth Thursday night. We occasionally thrown a pretty decent feed on and always enjoy that. You know we have always enjoyed a decent reason for an eating meeting! Won’t you consider dropping by and visiting some meeting night?

If you have the opportunity to be out Highway 50 in the foreseeable future, you will be seeing a lot of cars and folks milling around. We have begun getting things out of storage and getting ready to begin getting the Walk with Jesus production up and running again this year. We will be practicing a lot and the drama will be presented three weekends in March: the 16th&17th, the23rd &24th and the 30th. I will give you more details as things progress and I have details for you. Clear one of those dates though. It will have new scenes and it has been a couple of years since we have done it. You will be blessed I am sure.

Well, I am closing out I sure wish I could hear how things are going in your neck of the woods. I miss hearing from you guys!
