WEST POINT — Mr. William Carter “MBD” Brooks-Lee, 73, of West Point, Ga. passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 at his residence. “Carter,” as he was known to many, attended and graduated from Centennial High School in Compton, Cal. in 1962. He also attended Compton College. Carter found pleasure residing in California, Alabama and Georgia.

In 1962, Carter married ReJean “Ree” Sistrunk. Mr. Brooks-Lee had a passion for music, food, partying and having a good time. His music career started at a very young age and continued until his passing. He enjoyed sharing his music and lyrics with others. He recorded under the name of “MBD.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, ReJean Brooks; his parents, Will Ella Boyd and William Lee; his step-father, Arthur Brooks and brother, Lieutenant Boyd.

Mr. Brooks-Lee leaves to cherish his memories: four daughters, Jeanette Abney, Oceanside, Cal., Javonne Brooks, Phoenix, Arizona, Angel Brooks, Goodyear, Arizona, and Malika Lee, West Point, Ga.;  a special daughter, Symantha Evans; one son, Rodreika (Tracey) Avery, West Point, Ga.; siblings Cecelia Brooks, Delores Brooks, Lloyd Brooks, Shauna Brooks and Elizabeth Waters;  a special friend, Daryl, and a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren and other family members and MBD fans.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 EST at the Emanuel Chapel CME Church, West Point, with the Rev. C.J. Smith, pastor, Bishop Donald Lancaster, eulogist, Rev. Terry Tucker, and Min. Keith Young officiating. The remains will lie in state at the church on Thursday from the noon hour until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at the M.W. Lee Mortuary from 6 to 7 p.m. The family may be contacted at the residence of Mr. Rodreika (Tracey) Avery, 1412 Higgins Street in West Point.
