VALLEY, Ala. — Mr. Ralph Haden Powell, 86, of Valley passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. He was born on December 31, 1931 in Arab, Ala.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Carole H. Powell; his two children, Chuck (Vicky) Powell and Amanda Bunn; his five grandchildren, Craig Powell, Justin Powell, Kira McCoy, Haden Travis Bunn and Cameron Wheeler; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ann Powell.

Mr. Powell was a U.S. Army veteran with more than 20 years of service. He served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.  He was an avid Alabama fan.  He was a very straight-forward man who loved his family and the Lord.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Fairfax Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his memory.
