VALLEY — The Rams are in the clear.

On Thursday, the Alabama High School Athletic Association lifted a temporary suspension it placed on the Valley High School basketball program following an investigation into an incident that forced a pair of cancellations earlier in the week.

The Valley Times-News received confirmation from Valley Athletic Director Adam Hunter that the basketball teams have been cleared to return to competition. The junior varsity boys, varsity girls and varsity boys squads will take the court on Friday at Beulah.

No high school games were missed during the temporary suspension, which lasted about 24 hours. The suspension was instituted on Wednesday following an incident that occurred prior to the Lady Rams’ Tuesday night basketball game at Russell County High School in Seale, which is about 40 miles south.

Based on information gathered by the Times-News, a fight involving a Valley boys basketball player and multiple Russell County spectators broke out in the stands. The spectators were not believed to be members of the Russell County basketball program.

The scene halted the pregame warmup routine for Valley and Russell County and ultimately led to the cancellation of both girls and boys varsity contests. Only the junior varsity boys game was completed.

Chambers County School District Superintendent Kelli Hodge acknowledged the investigation, and incident, at Wednesday’s board of education meeting in LaFayette.

Beulah

The Beulah High School basketball program celebrated senior night on Thursday with a pair of victories over Randolph County.

The Lady Bobcats (6-8) won 48-32 behind 13 points and seven rebounds from junior Briana Brown. The seniors joined the action, too. KK Miller had nine points and four rebounds, Makayla Passmore had six points and two steals, and Alicia Hodge had four points, five rebounds and three steals.

The Beulah girls improved to 4-1 in Class 3A, Area 6 play.

The Beulah boys (7-7) defeated Randolph County, 62-53, to improve to 3-2 in the area.

Both teams will host Valley tonight.

Chambers Academy

The Chambers Academy girls basketball team (8-11) will open play in the AISA Class A Region 1 Tournament today at Macon East Academy in Cecil. The Lady Rebels had a bye in the opening round because they won their area, an accomplishment that qualified them automatically for next week’s state tournament.

Today, they face the winner of East Memorial Christian Academy and Abbeville in a game that will help determine state seeding.

The Chambers Academy boys (4-13), who qualified for state with Wednesday’s victory over Sparta Academy, will face Evangel today. That game also will help determine state seeding.
