The dinner will include a historical essay contest for Five Points School students. The first-place essay contest winner will read his or her essay.

The subject is expected to be interesting to all friends of Fredonia, since students are being challenged to research the details of daily life in our area in the last half of the 19th century, and to  capture in their essay how they imagine they themselves, had they been living in that time, might have spent a typical day.

The Heritage board has set the awards this year at $100 for first place, $60 for second, and $40 for third place.

Heritage member Jim Allen said the event began following a successful effort to save Fredonia’s town charter

The dinner has annually been held at the Fredonia Community House but it is undergoing construction this year.
