Bradshaw-Chambers County Library will host a Lunch N Learn program, “From Rolling Bungalows to Mobile Mansons: The Origins of the American Road Trip,” with Dr. David Burel on Friday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m. Call (334) 768-2161 by March 8th to make your free lunch reservation.

Kindergarten registration for any child living in the Lanett City Limits School District will be March 5 through March 23 from 8-3:30 p.m. Requirements for registration are: The child must be 5 on or before Sept. 2; proof of residence within the school district (light bill, lease agreement, etc.); original certified birth certificate, Social Security card, Parent ID and Alabama (blue) immunization certificate must be provided at the time of registration . Please come to the front office of W.O. Lance Elementary for registration.

Electronic recycling  will be taking place at the Chambers County Highway Department April 9-12 and at the Valley Farmers’ Market pavilion on April 13 and 14. There will be no cost to do this, and it will be an ideal time to dispose of unwanted items.

American Legion Post 67 will be holding their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at Sunny’s Restaurant, located on Fairfax Bypass in Valley. There’s s special invitation for all local veterans to attend.

Girl Scouts from the West Point area have started cookie sales in J. Smith Lanier II Park in downtown West Point. Girls from Troop 18069 will be there, rain or shine, from 4 to 6 p.m. every Friday through March 16.

The Rehobeth High School Class of 1968 will have a planning meeting for their 50th anniversary on Saturday, March 10th at 1 p.m. EST at Bradshaw-Chambers County Library in Valley. For further information, contact Brenda Jones at (334) 756-9358.

The Lanett First United Methodist Church Men’s Club will have a barbecue on Saturday, March 10th. Tickets are $8 a plate with pickup taking place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. EST. The church is located on South 6th Avenue.

The Lanier High School Historical Society  will be hosting an afternoon tea on Sunday, March 4 from 4-6 p.m. EST at 1302 North Cherry Drive in Lanett. Join former faculty and students in recalling the good old days. Find your school photo in the photo gallery. We are looking for donations to the Society. We are looking for old yearbooks, band instruments, athletic uniforms, early 1900s textbooks or school trophies.

Chambers County Library Travelers has open registration for an excursion to the Springer Opera House in Columbus Ga. to attend West Side Story on March 16. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park will host the 204th Anniversary of the Battle of the Horseshoe on Saturday, March 24, 2018. This annual event recreates traditional Creek Indian life, frontier life in the year 1814 and emphasizes the importance of the battle in United States history through a variety of special demonstrations and interpretive programs. Saturday’s activities will provide park visitors with a better understanding Southeastern American Indian life in this area 200 years ago.
