MR. JIMMY OWENS

LaGRANGE, Ga. — Mr. Jimmy Owens, loving father, husband and brother, passed away at his home on March 1, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.  He was born on December 19, 1935 in Jackson County, N.C. Mr. Jimmy Owens was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1974.  His last ten years of his military career, he served as the NCOIC of the Mental Health Services at Maxwell Air Force Base.

His additional responsibilities were as Air University CHAP officer (Children Have a Potential), drug abuse officer, and he was responsible for the incoming personnel security clearance.  He was also responsible for the supervision and training of the enlisted and civilian personnel.  He also performed psychological testing and evaluations.

Mr. Owens’ interests included sports (won several world titles for the Air Force in fast pitch softball), fishing and gardening.

Mr. Jimmy Owens is survived by four daughters, Debbie Lester (Larry), and daughter Savannah Jordan, Col. (Retired) Diane Fletcher (Greg), and daughter Courtney and Christopher, Susan Weathers (Scooter) and sons Hunter, Troy, Michael and Owen, Dionna Frady and son John Michael; brothers, Kenneth Owens (Martha), Harold Owens (Naomi); many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Owens; parents, Lee Roy and Lula Owens; son, Michael Owens and brother, Vernon Owens.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. EST at the Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Benefield officiating.  Interment will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, Ala.
