SHERIFF’S OFFICE reports

LaFAYETTE — In the evening hours of Wednesday, March 14, 2018, local law enforcement officers and state agents of the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Highway 77 near Abanda.

During the execution of this search warrant, agents located Kenneth A. Ballard and Jeremy L. Cofield on the property.

A search of the property resulted in the two men being charged with drug related offenses.

Kenneth Ballard has been charged with the unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.

Jeremy Cofield has been charged with the illegal purchase of Pseudoephedrine by a drug offender.

“This investigation is still ongoing and other charges may follow,” said Sheriff Sid Lockhart. “This investigation has been going on for several months now. I want to thank the administration of ALEA, the Lanett Police Department, Valley Police Department, and the agents and officers involved in the investigation.”

Two other arrests took place in Chambers County on Wednesday.

Travis Davenport, 28, of Roanoke, Ala. has been charged with failure to appear in drug court, and

Andrew Smith, 34, of Lanett has been charged with being a fugitive from justice.

There were 166 inmates in the Chambers County jail this morning.

LANETT — In incidents being investigated by Lanett police officers, trespassing, first degree, was reported on the 1500 block of South 4th Avenue; theft of property, first degree, has been reported on the 400 block of North 9th Avenue; theft of property, fourth degree, has been reported on the 3000 block of South Phillips Road; harassing communications has been reported on the 200 block of South 11th Street; criminal mischief, third degree, has been reported on the 1100 block of County Road 212, and harassing communications has been reported on the 100 block of South 6th Avenue.

WEST POINT — West Point police officers are investigating an incident of the illegal entry of an automobile taking place on East 10th Street.
