$22,000 in cocaine seized in I-85 traffic stop

LaGRANGE — At approximately 2:20 p.m. EDT on Monday, April 16th, Lt. Nathan Taylor with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office stopped a red 2017 Honda Accord in the south-bound lane on Interstate 85 near mile marker 9 for following too closely.

After stopping the vehicle, Lt. Taylor found that the driver, Earnest Murphy, 62, and the passenger, Tommy Holyfield, 70, both of Selma, Ala., were in possession of approximately eight ounces of cocaine.

Murphy and Holyfield were transported to the Troup County jail without incident. Murphy has been charged with following too closely and both have been charged with trafficking cocaine.

The cocaine has a street value of approximately $22,000.

Sheriff’s office reports

LaFAYETTE — Four people were arrested in Chambers County on Monday. According to Chambers County Sheriff’s Office reports,

Calvin Grady, 54, of LaFayette has been charged with a probation violation.

Edward Keafer, 34, of Lanett has been charged with a probation violation.

Triston Edmonson, 46, of Hogansville, Ga. has been charged with violating the sex offender registration notification act, and

Nicklas Blanton, 36, of Valley has been charged with destruction of state property by a prisoner.

Lanett reports

LANETT— Two people were arrested in Lanett on Monday. According to Lanett Police Department reports,

Edward Eugene Keafer, 34, of Lanett has been charged with failure to pay, and

Arneisha Sabri Morgan, 22, of Lanett has been charged with possession of a forged instrument, third degree, and theft of property, third degree.

In incidents being investigated by Lanett officers, harassment was reported on the 600 block of North 14th Avenue; theft of property, second degree, was reported on the 1100 block of 44th Avenue SW, and harassment was reported on the 2000 block of 25th Street SW.

Valley reports

VALLEY — Two people were arrested in Valley on Monday. According to Valley Police Department reports.

Marcis Corderro Strickland, 28, of Lanett has been charged with obstructing governmental operations and resisting arrest, and

Savannah Renee McCormick, 21, of Valley has been charged with failure to appear in court to answer traffic-related charges.

West Point reports

WEST POINT — One person was arrested in West Point on Monday. According to West Point Police Department reports,

Frederick Copeland of West Point has been charged with driving without a valid license.

In incidents being investigated by West Point officers, the illegal entry of an automobile was reported on Avenue C and criminal trespassing was reported on East 12th Street.
