The 21st annual LaFayette Day for Valley Haven School will be taking place in downtown LaFayette from 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. CDT (9-4 Eastern time) on Saturday, April 14th. There will be live entertainment all day, a volunteer firefighter’s competition, a car show, motorcycle ride, activities for kids, craft booths, lots of food and fun for everyone.
From 4 to 5:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, April 12th, the H. Grady Bradshaw- Chambers County Library and Cobb Memorial Archives will host a photograph care and handling workshop. Monique Fischer, senior photograph conservator, will lead the workshop and explain how to care for and preserve photographs. Call (334) 768-2161 to register.
An electronics clean up for Chambers County residents is scheduled for Monday, April 9th through Thursday, April 12th at the Chambers County Highway Department, located at 18107 U.S. 431N in LaFayette. Unwanted electronic items such as old computers and TVs will be accepted each day from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. CDT. The electronics clean up will be taking place at the Valley Farmers’ Market pavilion on Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th. There is no cost to do this;
GriefShare, a special help seminar and small group support for people experiencing grief and loss, will be held on Sunday evenings at The Bridge Church beginning March 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. CDT for 13 weeks excluding Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
Beginning April 6, Bradshaw Library will offer a 4-week course, “Lifting the Veil: Tuskegee’s Important Role in History” with Dana Chandler, Director of Archives at Tuskegee University. Lectures include: Booker T. Washington, Extension in Tuskegee, Clinton J. Calloway and the Development of the Rosenwald Schools and G. L. Washington and the Founding of the Tuskegee Airmen. The Chambers County Commission’s Human Resources Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. CDT on Monday, April 16, 2018 in the Commission Office in the Courthouse in downtown LaFayette. The Planning & Development Committee will meet at 2 p.m. on the same day.
The Fabulous Fabs will meet at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, April 13th at Sunny’s Restaurant in Valley. This is for men and women who worked at Fairfax Mill, Martex Towel Department or Fairfax Fabrication. For more information, call (334) 644-2837.
A fish fry and bake sale will be held in Standing Rock, Ala. from noon till 7 p.m. EDT on Saturday, April 21. Plates will be $10 each and will include catfish filets, cole slaw, hushpuppies, and French fries. For tickets, call (706) 586-0252. Proceeds will go to the Standing Rock Community Building Project. Drive-through pick-ups will be available at the Dodgen home, located on a hill off County Road 278 on the east side of Standing Rock.
