Couple to face drug, carjacking charges

LaFAYETTE — A man and woman from the Pensacola, Fla area are being held in the Chambers County jail awaiting extradition to Escambia County, Fla. where they will face robbery and carjacking charges. Chase Blackburn, 25, and Haley Watson, 20, also face charges in Chambers County of the unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Blackburn has also been charged with criminal mischief, third degree, for allegedly trying to kick down the door of a Langdale residence while fleeing from police.

Blackburn and Haley Watson are suspected of having stolen a red 2018 Nissan Versa, On Monday of this week. the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department was notified by the Foley, Ala. Police Department to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle. On Wednesday, Chambers County was notified that a car matching that description may have been seen in the Lanett area. Deputies started patrolling the area and located a red Versa that had been abandoned on the 2200 block of Highway 29 in Lanett.

On Thursday, deputies were notified that Blackburn and Watson may have been seen at the Rica Motel in Valley. When deputies converged on the scene, they saw a man standing outside a motel room. When the man saw them he reportedly took off running. The deputies gave chase and observed the subject trying to kick open the rear door of a nearby residence, causing some damage.

Blackburn was taken into custody by Valley officers in the vicinity of 48th Street. He was taken back to the motel, where Watson was located.

Officers then got a search warrant to look inside the room where the couple had been staying. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located inside.

Sheriff Sid Lockhart said that he’d like to thank officers from the Valley Police Department and the Chambers County Drug Task Force for their assistance in the arrests.
