MRS. Catherine Calhoun

LANETT — Mrs. Catherine Heard Calhoun, a resident of Hartford, Conn. and a former resident of Lanett, Ala., died Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Hartford.  Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Lanett with Dr. Lamar D. Johnson, pastor, and Bishop Derek L. Calhoun, eulogist, officiating.

Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, in Lanett. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley is directing.  Public viewing was scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2018 from 1 until 7 p.m. EDT at Davis Memorial Mortuary.

Cathy, as she was affectionately called, was a 1958 graduate of Lanier High School in Lanett and a 1979 graduate of Morris School of Business in Connecticut. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lanett. After relocating to Hartford, Conn., she joined Hopewell Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a member of the usher and hospitality ministries.  Following in the footsteps of her entrepreneurial father, Homer Jack Heard, she entered the business world and opened Kitty Daycare.

Mrs. Calhoun leaves a legacy of love to: her devoted husband of 50 years, James Calhoun, Hartford, Conn.; two loving children, Bishop Derek (Sharron) Calhoun, Orange Park, Fla. and Juandalynn (Larry) Heslop, Greer, S.C., six brothers, Homer (Mildred) Heard, William (Linda) Acres, Henderson Acres, Jr., Fob (Brenda) Heard and Jamie (Janice) Heard, all of Lanett, and Bob (Susie) Heard, Montgomery, Ala.; a niece reared as a sister, Tracey (Joe) Kendrick, Montgomery, Ala.; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Virginia Heard; two goddaughters, Kendra Patten, Jonesboro, Ga. and Sherlene Jenkins (Donald) Edmonson, Lanett, and an array of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
