Ms. marie “Susie” buckner

WEST POINT — Ms. Marie D. “Susie” Buckner, 61, of West Point, Ga. passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at EAMC-Lanier Hospital in Valley, Ala. Ms. Buckner was born on November 6, 1956 in Troup County, Ga.

“Susie”, as she was known to many, received her education in the West Point City School System. She was a member of the 1975 graduating class of West Point High.

She was a member of the Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served as an usher. Susie was a very loving and caring person. She was the glue that held her family together.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Annie Carol Buckner; a sister, Debra Buckner; maternal grandparents, Cal and A.C. Smith; paternal grandparents, Otis and Sarah Buckner; aunts, Sarah Mae Frazier, Lucile Milton, Lorene Buckner; uncles, Billie Joe Buckner, Edward Buckner, and Dan Buckner.

Marie leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Tabias (Samantha Finley) Buckner; a daughter, Renata (Douglas) Dowdell; three beautiful grandkids, Serenity Buckner, Tayln Buckner, and Alannah Buckner, all of West Point; siblings, Patricia Williams, Leon Buckner, Sarah Johnson, Brenda Buckner, Wanda Buckner, Keith Buckner, Melissa Buckner all of West Point; David (Maurice) Buckner, Valley, Ala. and Kenneth (LaTonya) Buckner, Newnan, Ga.; aunts Delores Smith and Bernice Smith, Bronx, N.Y., Geraldine Buckner, Camp Hill, Ala. and Diane Buckner, Alexander City. Ala.; uncles, Kelvin Smith, Harlem, N.Y., Willie C. Buckner, Saginaw, Mich, and Lewis Buckner, Grand Rapids, Mich,; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; a very dear and special friend, William “Bubba” Cumberlander.

A celebration of the life of Ms. Buckner will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Brenda Rhodes, pastor, Rev. Ralph Thompson, eulogist, Elder Caterrius Tucker, Evg. Stephanie Davenport, and Ms. Michele Winston, officiating.

The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 1 p.m. EDT until the funeral hour.
