WEST POINT — After nearly two years of housing students for Point University, Abbey Glen Apartment Homes is now open to the public.

The ribbon cutting was attended by representatives from both the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and the LaGrange/Troup County Chamber of Commerce, along with business leaders, city council members, West Point Mayor Steve Tramell, city employees, Batson-Cook employees and various chamber members. The event was catered by Coach’s Bar and Grill.

“This is a day of celebration,” said Ashley Crane, executive director of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce. “We’re glad you are all here in our community.”

Also on hand was West Point Mayor Steve Tramell, who thanked everyone for coming out to the ribbon cutting.

“I’m looking forward to more units coming soon,” he said.

According to Property Manager Cortney Sparks, Abbey Glen Apartment Homes initially opened in the latter half of 2016.

Point University occupied all units for student housing since the apartment complex opened, however the school vacated the apartments recently, due to recent work on student housing.

They currently have 20-25 people staying at the 72-unit complex.

“There’s more than enough room for people coming in,” she said, noting that 48 more units will be coming by the spring of 2019.

There are also plans to build a pool and new clubhouse. A playground and bark park for pets are also being considered.

“Once complete, we will be able to house 192 people,” Sparks said.
