The public is cordially invited to view the annual blooming of the shoals spider lilies at the Flat Shoals Nature Preserve, located on Georgia 103 south of West Point. The proeprty will be open to the public on the weekends of May 11-13, May 13-20 and May 25-28 (including Memorial Day). With parking being limited, carpooling is recommended.

A Lights in the Garden ballroom dance will be taking place at the Active Life Center, located at 140 Ragland Street in LaGrange from 8 to 11 p.m. EDT on Friday, May 11th. Coat and tie is preferable but not mandatory. It’s $20 per couple with a complimentary Bolero dance lesson starting at 7 p.m. It’s open to adults of all ages. Photos will be taken in the garden. Snacks and desserts appreciated.

There will be two special programs about the life of Hank Williams at Bradshaw-Chambers County library in May. At 11:30 a.m. EDT on Friday, May 11th, there will be a viewing of the 1964 movie “Your Cheatin’ Heart.” At 11:30 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 16th, Jeff and Beth Petty, owners of the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, will have a Lunch N Learn program entitled “Remembering Hank Williams.”

The May meetings of the Chambers County Commission are set for Monday, May 7, 2018 and Monday, May 21, 2018. Commission meetings begin at 4 p.m. CDT (5 Eastern time) and are held in the county courthouse. The Commission offices will be closed on Monday, May 28th for Memorial Day.

The Juneteenth Community Festival will be taking place on the grounds of Goodsell Methodist Church in Lanett from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 9th. There will be wholesome family fun, live entertainment, food and refreshments.

The Interfaith Food Closet, located behind the Langdale Methodist Church in Valley, is open on Mondays, from 9-11:30 a.m. EDT; Tuesdays, 1-4 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9-11:30 a.m.; Thursdays, 1-4 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. till noon. An ID and  proof of residency is needed to be eligible.

The 20th annual Langdale Reunion will be taking place Saturday, May 19 at the Langdale Methodist Church Family Life Center, starting at 10 a.m. The cost of the meal is $10 per person. In honor of Mother’s Day, Harris Funeral Home, located at 515 South 6th Street in Opelika, will have a balloon release at 2 p.m. CDT on Saturday May 12th. Everyone is invited to join in this day of remembrance for mothers.

The West Point Active Life Center is a Recreation Center for independent adults 55+. We provide a $2 lunch for those over 60 as well as Activities, Games, Billiards, Quilting, Trips, Exercise Classes and every Wednesday we have FREE BINGO at 10:30 AM. GriefShare, a special help seminar and small group support for people experiencing grief and loss, will be held on Sunday evenings at The Bridge Church beginning March 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. CDT for 13 weeks excluding Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

The Chambers County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 17th at El Rio Mexican Restaurant in Lanett. The meeting will take place on the back patio. This meeting will take place just 19 days before the primary election.
