From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. CDT (6:30 to 7:30 Eastern time) there will be a Meet the Candidates event at the Farmers’ Federation, or ALFA, Building in LaFayette. The event is being sponsored by the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce as a means for local citizens to hear from many of the candidates seeking office in the June 5th Democratic and Republican primaries.

The May meeting of the Chambers County 9-1-1/EMA Board will take place at 12:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the 9-1-1 building.

The public is cordially invited to view the annual blooming of the shoals spider lilies at the Flat Shoals Nature Preserve, located on Georgia 103 south of West Point. The property will be open to the public on the weekends of May 11-13, May 13-20 and May 25-28 (including Memorial Day). With parking being limited, car pooling is recommended.

The Chambers County Commission’s Public Facilities and Infrastructure Committee will meet at 2 p.m. CDT (3 Eastern time) on Monday, May 21, 2018 in the Commission office in the courthouse. At 3 p.m. CDT, the Human Resources Committee will meet in the same office. The full Commission will meet at 4 p.m. CDT on the same day. The Commission offices will be closed on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.

The Juneteenth Community Festival will be taking place on the grounds of Goodsell Methodist Church in Lanett from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 9. There will be wholesome family fun, live entertainment, food and refreshments.

The Interfaith Food Closet, located behind the Langdale Methodist Church in Valley, is open on Mondays, from 9-11:30 a.m. EDT; Tuesdays, 1-4 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9-11:30 a.m.; Thursdays, 1-4 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. till noon. An ID and  proof of residency is needed to be eligible.

The 20th annual Langdale Reunion will be taking place Saturday, May 19 at the Langdale Methodist Church Family Life Center, starting at 10 a.m. The cost of the meal is $10 per person. The West Point Active Life Center is a Recreation Center for independent adults 55+. We provide a $2 lunch for those over 60 as well as Activities, Games, Billiards, Quilting, Trips, Exercise Classes and every Wednesday we have FREE BINGO at 10:30 AM. GriefShare, a special help seminar and small group support for people experiencing grief and loss, will be held on Sunday evenings at The Bridge Church beginning March 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. CDT for 13 weeks excluding Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

The Chambers County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 17 at El Rio Mexican Restaurant in Lanett. The meeting will take place on the back patio. This meeting will take place just 19 days before the primary election.

The Achievement Center – Easter Seals (located at 510 West Thomason Circle, Opelika) invites you to their “Open House” Tuesday, May 22.  Tours of the newly renovated facility will be given from 10 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. CDT.  Refreshments will be served.  The public is invited.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will be having a blood drive 0n Thursday, May 17th at the CharterBank Corporate office in West Point from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT.

Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 876 will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. All officers and members are asked to be present to discuss business of importance.
