A number of local high school graduation ceremonies will be taking place this week. LaFayette High’s graduation took place Monday evening. Valley High’s graduation is set for 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday, May 22 at Ram Stadium. Commencement for Beulah High is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT, Thursday, May 24th at Bobcat Stadium. Four local schools will be graduating on Friday, May 25th.The Acts Academy ceremony will be taking place at 7 p.m. EDT that day at the Evangel Temple in Huguley, Chambers Academy’s graduation will be taking place at 7 p.m. CDT at Torbert Field, Troup High’s graduation is set for 8 p.m. EDT at Callaway Stadium and Lanett High’s graduation will be taking place at 8:30 p.m. EDT at Morgan-Washburn Stadium.

Due to the Annual Alabama League of Municipalities Conference the regularly scheduled Lanett City Council meeting for Monday, May 21st was canceled.  The next meeting will be Monday, June 4th.

Kick off your children’s summer vacation with a FREE fun event consisting of inflatables, games, activities, crafts, food and Bible study. Valley Baptist Church is presenting a Kids’ Camp at Sears Memorial Hall (Langdale gym) on Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1.  The camp is open to children who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade. At 11 a.m. EDT on Monday, May 28th, American Legion Post No. 67, Valley, will be hosting a Memorial Day program at Veterans Memorial Park. The public is invited. There’s a special invitation for veterans who served during the Vietnam War era.

The public is cordially invited to view the annual blooming of the shoals spider lilies at the Flat Shoals Nature Preserve, located on Georgia 103 south of West Point. The property will be open to the public on the weekends of May 11-13, May 18-20 and May 25-28 (including Memorial Day). With parking being limited, car pooling is recommended.

The Chambers County Commission will meet in a work session at the Commission office at 1:30 p.m. CDT on Thursday, May 24th. The Commission offices will be closed on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.

The Chambers County Chapter of the Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC) will meet at 6:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday. May 24 at Goodsell Methodist Church in Lanett. For more information, contact Dr. Randy B. Kelley, county chairman, at (256) 390-1834.

The Interfaith Food Closet, located behind the Langdale Methodist Church in Valley, is open on Mondays, from 9-11:30 a.m. EDT; Tuesdays, 1-4 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9-11:30 a.m.; Thursdays, 1-4 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. till noon. An ID and  proof of residency is needed to be eligible.

The West Point Active Life Center is a Recreation Center for independent adults 55+. We provide a $2 lunch for those over 60 as well as Activities, Games, Billiards, Quilting, Trips, Exercise Classes and every Wednesday we have FREE BINGO at 10:30 AM. GriefShare, a special help seminar and small group support for people experiencing grief and loss, will be held on Sunday evenings at The Bridge Church beginning March 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. CDT for 13 weeks excluding Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 876 will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. All officers and members are asked to be present to discuss business of importance.

The renewal of animal licenses in the City of Valley begins on Friday, June 1, 2018. These licenses can be purchased at the city clerk’s office at city hall. The fee for the license will depend on the age of the animal and whether they have been spayed or neutered. Every animal that’s at least four months of age must have a license. If they have been spayed or neutered, the fee is $10 for animals under 12 months of age and $5 for animals older than that. The fee is $25 per animal for those that haven’t been spayed or neutered.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, Inc. will be having two blood drives in Chambers County on the weekend of May 26 and 27. On Saturday, May 26, the bloodmobile will be at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in LaFayette from 9 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. CDT. On Sunday, May 27, the bloodmobile will be at the LaFayette Heights Baptist Church from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. CDT. There is a critical need right now for all blood types, especially O positive and O negative.
