George “Tony” Trammell

LANETT — Mr. George “Tony” Trammell, 70, of Lanett, AL passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, AL.   George was born October 26, 1947 in West Point, GA to the late Albert Trammell and the late Maybelle Trammell Hargett.

Mr. Trammell was a member of the St. James Baptist Church, Lanett, AL.  He was a 1965 graduate of Rehobeth High School.  Tony served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969 when he was honorably discharged.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Air and Purple Heart.

George retired from Uniroyal/BF Goodrich with 25 years of service.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Allene Trammell.

Memories of his life will forever be cherished by his wife, Mary C. Trammell, Lanett, AL; two daughters, Edrice Smith, Powder Springs, GA, Esmerelda “Mecie” Williams, Lanett, AL; son, Victor Lipscomb, Lanett, AL; nine grandchildren, Vicketa, Antwan, LaKeasha, Kellesha, Khyron, Alexis, Javaris, Quinta and Mekaela; eight great-grandchildren: one brother, Charles Trammell, Covington, GA; brothers-in-law, Fred (Lena) Lipscomb, Shaker Heights, OH, Norman (Jacalyn) Lipscomb, Lanett, AL; sisters-in-law, Josephine Lipscomb, LaFayette, AL, Irish Hodges, Detroit, MI; lifetime neighbors, the Huguley’s; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Trammell will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00 am. ET at the St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. John Flournoy, Jr., Rev. W. G. Wimberly and Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Walker, II, Rev. Leonard Autry, Rev. Richard Carter, officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinehill Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 10:00 a.m., ET until the funeral hour.
