MRs. Doris Mae Woody

LANETT —Mrs. Doris Mae Woody, 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Woody was born March 1, 1933 in Lanett, Ala. to the late L. J. Howard, Sr. and Luellar Howard.

Mrs. Woody received her education in the Chambers County School System.

Doris accepted Christ and was baptized in 1943 by Pastor E. D. Lumpkin. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where she served in many capacities on various auxiliaries. She was a member of Mary Chapter No. 365 OES.

Doris was joined in united Holy Matrimony to Mr. John Henry Woody, who preceded her in death. From this union four children were born. Her passion and gift was playing the piano for various churches in Chambers County, Ala. She was the neighborhood mother, better known as “Madea”. She was loved by all that she came in contact with and always had spiritual advice.

Mrs. Woody retired from Letica Corporation and Walmart, where she worked as a door greeter and greeted everyone with a smile. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie B. Howard; two sisters, Ozella Howard and Margaret Walker; four children, Claudine Boyd, Thaddis Boyd, LaGail Woody, and Carolyn Boyd.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons Gregory Woody, Michael (Linda) Woody, of Lanett; Robert (Tammy) Boyd, of Stone Mountain Ga.; one daughter, Sayonaria Woody, of Lanett; two sisters, Lullellar Cammon, of Lanett; Sadie (James) Whitted, of Montgomery Ala.; one sister-in-law, Patrice Howard, Las Vegas Nevada; one daughter-in-law, Brenda A Boyd, of LaFayette Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews; a host of god children, Arkeshea (Terry) Sharpe; Bobbie (Anthony) Carter; Francine (Aurther)  Marshall; Henry Lee Goss; Hannah Ridgeway; and Peggy Pollard; special friends, Laura Kate Smith, Dorothy Booker, Jessie and Hattie Cue Jackson, Michelle Johnson; a special neighbor, Peggy Hrabowskie and listening to Johnny Hill on WPCH 1310.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Woody will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with the Dr. Lamar Johnson, pastor, Bishop Donald Lancaster, eulogist, Bishop Bertha Hicks-Hodge, Rev. Keith Moore and Elder Terry Tucker officiating. Interment will be held in the Pine Hill Cemetery. The remains will lie in state in the church on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 1 p.m. EDT until the funeral hour.
