There are two candidates who are running unopposed in their respective parties to represent District 3 in the Chambers County Commission.

Democrat Joe Lee Blanks is running as the incumbent. In 2014, Blanks was re-elected to the position by winning the race, getting 53 percent of the votes compared to Republican Eugene Blair’s 47 percent.

After presumably winning their parties’ primary races, Blanks will be challenged by Republican James “Moto” Williams in November’s general election.

Williams is a Mt. Olive resident and has lived in Chambers County for 54 years. He’s worked with the Mt. Olive Volunteer Fire Department since he was a young man and he’s been married to Chris Browning Williams for 31 years now.

The couple has raised two sons together, and they have a granddaughter. Williams has previously said that he values community service, as he has been an employee for the Alabama Forestry Commission for 28 years. His experience in forestry has given him the chance to interact with various Chambers County community members on their concerns for the area, he said.

“I believe it is time to step forward and improve the future of Chambers County,” Williams previously said to The Valley Times-News. “Through public service, communication and strong leadership, I know I can help make a difference in this county I call home.”
