VALLEY — Sometimes modern technology can be frustrating, exasperating and just downright annoying.

Since 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the phones at Bradshaw-Chambers County Library have been ringing off the hook. The library is a popular place but not that popular.

Librarian Mary Hamilton thinks they may be the victim of what is known as phone spoofing. Someone, for some reason, may have taken the library’s 10-digit phone number and had it making automatic calls all over the country. What’s happening is that when the person being called sees a number they don’t recognize, they call back and ask who’s been calling them.

It’s extremely aggravating for the library staff to put up with phones ringing over and over and over. With all this going on, it’s almost impossible for regular patrons to get their calls in.

“We want our patrons to know we have a problem that’s outside our control right now,” Hamilton said. “If anyone needs to contact us, the best thing right now is to call 334-768-2165 or e-mail us at askus@chamberscountylibrary.org.

Hamilton said, “We have contacted the FCC. We want to get this resolved as soon as possible. We appreciate the support we have gotten from the community. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused people trying to call us.”
