MRs. Hattie Gilliam

WEST POINT — Mrs. Hattie Margaret Strickland Gilliam, 78, of West Point, Ga. passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, Ga.

Mrs. Gilliam, the daughter of Jim Henry and Annie Margaret Strickland, was born April 3, 1941 in Chambers County Ala.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in West Point. Hattie received her formal education in the West Point School System. After many years of service, Hattie retired from WestPoint Pepperell’s Lanett Mill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Henry and Annie Margaret Strickland; one son, Gregory Lamorris Strickland Gilliam; five brothers, Clifford Holloway, Henry Strickland Jr., Robert Strickland, Gene Strickland and Walter Sanford Strickland and a sister, Emma Lee Wright.

Mrs. Gilliam enjoyed life and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and family. To know her was to love her. Her radiant smile will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Wilbert Joe Gilliam; her children, Sabrina Renae Gilliam, Terry Andre Gilliam, Loretta Hope (John T.) Gilliam, all of West Point; five grandchildren, Enrique, Christopher, Natori, Devanna and Kyle; eight great- grandchildren; a loving sister, Willie Mae Strickland; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gilliam, Anita Huguley and Bessie Billingslea; one brother-in-law, Tommy Gilliam, Sr.; a very special nephew, Vincent M. Hurston; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Gilliam will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, West Point with Dr. W.T. Edmondson, pastor, Overseer Gary Fanning, eulogist, Min. Winston Fanning, and Rev. Adrian Frazier, officiating. Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 1 p.m. EDT until the funeral hour.
