One of two LaFayette shooting suspects arrested

LaFAYETTE — One suspect involved in a shooting at Jack’s Restaurant on 20th Ave SW was arrested Friday, June 22.

Dennis Sanchez Asberry, 30, was arrested by an officer in front of a residence in the Langdale Mill Village District in Valley. According to LaFayette Police Sergeant Roderick Brock, the arresting officer was carrying out a routine patrol. Upon spotting Asberry, the officer was able to make the arrest.

“An officer was patrolling the area over near the Mill Village and was able to see him outside,” Brock said. “He was in front of a residence he was known to hang out at. The officer arrested him then.”

Area police have been on the lookout for Asberry and 20-year-old Anterio Makel Williams since Wednesday, June 13 when the two were identified for firing shots at the fast food restaurant. Although Asberry was caught Friday, Williams is still at large.

“We haven’t arrested him yet and his whereabouts are unknown,” Brock said.

Asberry was charged with reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm in the city limits. Williams is charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, discharging a firearm in city limits, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. No injuries were reported at the time of the shooting.

In other police reports over the weekend, several vehicle related investigations into criminal activity were opened. In Lanett, a woman reported a flat tire that appeared to be slashed, according to Lanett Police Department Maj. Johnny Wood. Police are investigating potential criminal mischief.

At the Cherry Valley Shopping Center, a vehicle may or may not have been stolen, and whether first degree theft was committed is under investigation. According to the police department, the owner of the vehicle went into a business and heard his car alarm going off on Friday. As of Monday the car is still missing, but the owner admitted to police that the vehicle may have been repossessed, not stolen.
