LaFAYETTE —Gregory Cooper Abney 17, of LaFayette, Ala. died Friday June 29, 2018 at his residence. Cooper was born in Lee County, Ala. on August 13, 2000 to James Lee (Red) Abney and Karla Gregory Abney Greathouse. He was employed with his father at the AbneyCo Company. Cooper loved to hunt, fish and ride 4 wheelers. He loved his family and friends. He was a great son, brother,uncle and friend. He also loved to travel and was a hard worker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT on Friday July 6, 2018 at the Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 4472 County Road 53, LaFayette, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The Rev. Ricky Cummings and the Rev. Barry Brooks will officiate.. Visitation will be held Friday at the church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., prior to the service.

Cooper is survived by his mother, Karla Gregory Abney (Jonathan) Greathouse of LaFayette, his father, James Lee (Red) Abney of LaFayette; three sisters, Nicole (Jamie) Brooks of Chelsea, Ala., Erika Whaley of LaFayette, his twin sister, Karlee Abney of LaFayette, brother, Hunter Abney of LaFayette, grandparents. James (Brenda) Gregory of LaFayette, nieces and nephews Jacob, Hannah and Austin Brooks of Chelsea, Ala. and Madison Johns of LaFayette. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Cooper and Rosa Looser, Elton and Ernestine Gregory and James and Arlene Martin; his grandmother, Bobbie Bradfield, nephew, Ryan Brooks and best friend. Pallbearers are Hunter Abney, Coy Burton, Blake Barron, Bradley McDaniel, Jacob Brooks, Justin Brown, Justin Brooks, Noah Tapley, Robbie Abney, Jr., Tillman Hodge, Wesley Dowdy and Paden Abney.
