THE BAPTIST WOMEN group of First Baptist Church Shawmut met on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018 in the Administrative Building.
Mary Ann Fuller welcomed everyone and spoke for a few minutes about how blessed we are and how thankful she is for our country and for the ones who gave their lives for our freedom and those who are still willing to give all that we can continue having the freedoms we all should appreciate.
Mary Ann led the group in prayer before giving the program that she titled “Shawmut First WMU in the rear view mirror.” She read minutes of the Lottie Moon Group, one of several at the time, from the years 1999, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009 and as an added bonus, read the minutes of the 1944 Deacon’s meeting. So many of the ones mentioned have left a lasting impression on those who continue to carry on WMU work in our church.
Mae Thompson gave the prayer calendar using scripture from Micah 6:6-8, she referred to “Buckets of Hope” from the Missions Magazine. She led in prayer for the missionaries and other prayer requests. Elizabeth Hall read the minutes of the June meeting and Mary Ann gave the treasurer’s report.
Linda Tolbert presided over the business session including setting the date for the 2nd annual Christmas In August celebration, which will be on August 26th following the collection of toys for the Christian Service Center’s Christmas store. The Christmas store is by invitation and there is no charge for the items these less fortunate people select for their children. Linda announced that the annual community wide food drive for the Christian Service Center will be held September 29th, the Myers/Mallory State Mission Offering goal was set as were some other dates for mission projects. She reminded the group that Vacation Bible School will be held July 23, 24 and 25 from 9:00 AM until12:00 noon. Nita Abney closed the meeting with prayer and blessed the delicious food.
Those attending were: Mae Thompson, Sallie Breedlove, Cheryl Myers, Liz Landreth, Hilda Hunt, Carolyn Oliver, Mary Ann Fuller, Linda Tolbert, Elizabeth Hall and Nita Abney.
MS. HILDA HUNT was honored on her birthday, Monday July 9th, with a luncheon at Milano’s Grill on Fob James Drive. The table was beautifully adorned with sunflowers in a jar at each place for the guests and a huge bouquet especially for the honoree. The sunflowers were grown by Hilda’s daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Steve Chambley and Nancy had decorated the table before the group arrived. Ms. Hilda was surprised by the table decorations and the other diners were impressed.
Hilda was joined by members of the Joy Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Shawmut plus one. Those helping her celebrate were: Mary Ann Fuller, Carolyn Oliver, Linda Tolbert, Nita Abney, Elizabeth Hall, Liz Landreth and the honoree, Ms. Hunt.
I HAD A LADY call me Tuesday afternoon who would like to have the Shawmut Kindergarten Christmas ornament the Fairfax Variety Club sold a few years ago. She is willing to pay for it or she has an extra one of the Madonna she would be willing to swap for it. If you or someone you know would be interested in selling or making a trade with her, please contact Brenda Adams at 706-518-5290.
