Shawmut News: School reunion planned

Published 9:25 pm Thursday, July 5, 2018

PLANS ARE UNDERWAY for the annual Shawmut School Reunion, which brings together those who attended school in the old two story building and spent many hours during the summer months with friends and family members, taking part in various activities and playing on the circle. From the first reunion, these people have become known as “The Children of the Circle”.

Most any morning at this time of the year, if you should visit McDonald’s for a cup of coffee and food, you might find a group of these “children” seated around tables visiting and remembering tales of the good times they enjoyed and how different things are these days.

On Thursday evening, June 28th, a group met in the fellowship hall of Plant City Methodist Church to put the wheels in motion for this year’s reunion which is scheduled for Saturday, August 11th in the W. O. Kent Recreation Center. The doors will be open before 10:00 o’clock AM with people waiting to greet you with a smile and be sure you update your contact information so you don’t miss the notice of next year’s reunion. Lunch will be served around the noon hour and those who attend are asked to bring a covered dish of a food of your choice. Drinks will be provided.

Cindy Daniel brought the group to order and asked Rev. Frank Sledge to open the meeting with a prayer of thanks for the food.  She thanked David Herrington for grilling the hot dogs and hamburgers while she was putting together side dishes, chips and condiments. Some others had brought desserts.

Following the food and fellowship time, Cindy asked Danny Blackburn for a report of receipts from last year and the balance in the treasury after a donation was made to Bob Harding-Shawmut Elementary School in appreciation for allowing us the use of the gym.  Cindy noted that someone had volunteered to help update the sign-in sheets and she had forgotten who it was and that person had not returned them to her. She really needs to have these as she does have some returned mail and needs to correct the addresses before the announcements go out.

Coming together in support of this event were David and Sue Herrington, Roger and Ellen McDonald, Juanita Abney, Bob Bailey, Rev. Frank and Joyce Sledge, Glen Hall, Tommy and Sheena Siggers, Danny Blackburn, Roy McClendon Jr., Andy Harper, Cindy Daniel and Janice Dallas.

FAITH GRABEN celebrated her 17th birthday twice this past weekend. On Friday night, June 29th, she was joined at Sam Marcos Mexican Restaurant by Kyndal Wright, Hanna Smith, Kinsley Wortham, Katie Suarez, Conner Hamby, Ashley Coulter and her parents, Walter and Phoebe Graben.

On Saturday, June 30th, her actual birthdate, she was joined by family and friends at The Mason Jar in Auburn for lunch. She really just wanted to get into one of their famous milk shakes and she did. Our very friendly and efficient waitress called everyone in the restaurant to attention to announce that was Faith’s birthday and please join in wishing her a happy day. The response was fantastic!!

Enjoying this time together were Walter Sr. and Glenda Graben, Janice Dallas, Laine Dallas, Chad, Mikki, Emma and Sarah Dallas, Kinsley Wortham, Walter Jr., Phoebe, Justin and Austin Graben and of course, Faith.
