Mrs. Gertrude “Granny Gert” Wadkins

VALLEY — Mrs. Gertrude “Granny Gert” Moon Wadkins, 82, of Valley, Ala. passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the LaFayette Extended Care in LaFayette, Ala.

Mrs. Wadkins was born on June 21, 1936 in Chambers County, Ala. to the late Woodrow Wilson Moon and Grace Moon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Sue Brown and her brother, Billy Moon.

After working in the textile mills, Mrs. Wadkins worked as a waitress for several years in the Valley area including Sue’s Chic Café, the Triangle Restaurant, Carey’s Catfish, and Barnes Restaurant.

She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and an avid University of Alabama football fan.  She enjoyed working in the yard and working crossword puzzles in her spare time.

She enjoyed spending time with the many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren, and extended family that she loved dearly.  One of her favorite things to do was getting dressed up and going out for dinner or an outing with family or friends.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Melissa (Larry) Crane, Kathy Ogle, Gina (Joseph) Moore; great-grandchildren, Tsali Hull, Emma Crane, Lindsey Ogle, Alaya Moore, Tessa Moore, Michael Moore, and great great-grandson Braylon Cole.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel in Valley with interment following in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.  The Rev. Danny Spear will officiate. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 p.m. EDT until 8 p.m. EDT.
