LANETT — In recent District Masters Games competition, Lanett seniors won a total of 51 medals – 19 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze. They now advance to the State Games, which will be hosted by Valley Community Center this October.

“Anyone can come and watch,” said Lanett Senior Center Director Tammy Hollis. “Over 500 seniors from all across Alabama will be there. We need to have a good turnout to welcome these seniors and to cheer on our local teams.”

Host team Valley and Lanett will be well represented.

Lanett seniors winning medals included (age 90 and above age group): Fannie Little – first place, nerf throw, second place, horseshoes and third place, shuffleboard; Betty Travick – first place, table tennis, and first place, double dominoes, 2nd place, softball and 2nd place, single dominoes, and third place nerf throw; Thelma Bailey – first place, shuffleboard and 3rd place table tennis; Leila Walker – second place, double dominoes; Hattie Freeman – second place, double dominoes; George Hill – second place, checkers; Annette Towles – second place, shuffleboard; Dorothy Thomas – first place, horseshoes, frisbee ad double dominoes, second place basketball and nerf; Betty Ward – third place, basketball, softball and horseshoes.

In the 75 to 79 age group, Lucy Heard won first place in domino singles; Floyd Aikens was first in checkers, second in single dominoes, frisbee toss, horseshoes, nerf throw and double dominoes; Floy Aikens was first in frisbee and second in single dominoes, double dominoes, basketball, horseshoes and shuffleboard; Zil Maxi was first in frisbee, second in softball throw and third in shuffleboard; Toni Johnson – third in shuffleboard; Fannie Spence – first in double dominoes; and Mattie Walker – first in double dominoes, and third in softball throw and horseshoes.

Tammy Hollis was first in nerf basketball, softball, frisbee, horseshoes, and double dominoes, and second in shuffleboard and single dominoes.
