› LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will be having some blood drives in the local area this week. On Thursday, Sept. 27th, the bloodmobile will be at Lanett High from 7:30 a.m. till 2 p.m. and at Valley High from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10th.

› Chambers County Library Travelers has open registration for an excursion to Georgia’s Andersonville Historic Fair & Civil War Reenactment on Oct 6. The cost is $32 and includes motor coach transportation, the festival’s parade and reenactment activities, and the National P.O.W. museum. › Bradshaw Library will present a Fun Friday program, “Quilt History: Secrets of the Bedcovers” featuring speaker Linda Camp on Friday, Oct 12 at 12 noon.  Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. by reservation only.  Call (334) 768-2161 by Oct 10 to make your FREE lunch reservation.

› On Tuesday, Oct 23 at 12:00 p.m., Bradshaw Library will host a Lunch N Learn presentation, “It Came in Like a Cyclone: Alabama and the 1918 Influenza.” Valley Pharmacy will be offering flu shots from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. by reservation only.  Call (334) 768-2161 by Oct 21 to make your FREE lunch reservation.

› Come to Bradshaw Library on Oct 26 at 10:30 a.m. for a Café Connections event, “Thanks a Latte: Veteran Appreciation Mix & Mingle.” Visit with our local veterans and library patrons, share a cup of coffee and enjoy a relaxing morning at the library! Bring a friend! No reservation is required.

Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 876 will meet at 7 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, Sept. 25th. All officers and members are asked to be present to make final plans for the upcoming Black and White Ball, which will be held Saturday, October 13th at the FOP Lodge in Opelika.

› First Baptist Church of West Point Community Concert Series presents Randall Smith, “Simply Hymns” with special guest hymn writer and composer Michael Morgan, Sunday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. The public is invited, 301 East 8th Street.

› The Lanett Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will have a called meeting at 5 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at the administrative office located at 506 First Street. The public is welcome.

› The Touched by Suicide Support Group will meet Monday, October 1st at 5:30 p.m. CDT (6:30 Eastern) at the EAMC Health Education Center, located at 2027 Peppered Parkway (across the street from the hospital). This is an informal group made up of caring individuals whose lives have been touched by the suicide of a family member or friend. › The fall and winter hours for the Christian Service Center will be 9 a.m. till noon EDT on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. For assistance, you must sign in at the office before 11:30 a.m. EDT. Christmas applications will be taken during regular hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The deadline is October 18th. You must have a current Alabama ID. › The Chambers County Forestry Landowners will have their planning meeting at the Farmers Federation building in LaFayette at 6 p.m. CDT (7 p.m. Eastern time) on Thursday, October 11, 2018.

› The Chambers County School District is currently seeking to locate, identify, and evaluate children with disabilities from birth to age 21. Eligible participants for special services may include those with hearing, visual, orthopedic, speech and language impairments, as well as children with intellectual, emotional, or learning disabilities and other health impairments. Parents or relatives of children with disabilities not currently being served should call Diane Sherriff at 334-864-9343, extension 10203, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. CDT.

› The Kiwanis Club of West Point meets regularly the second Monday of each month at noon at Momma Goldberg’s and the fourth Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Momma Goldberg’s in historic downtown West Point. Join us and see what Kiwanis is planning in West Point and Lanett. Newcomers are welcome!

› A monthly dementia support group meets at 6:30 p.m. EDT on the first Tuesday of the month at the Chattahoochee Hospice office, located at 6 Medical Park N0rth in Valley. A monthly grief support group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday at the Hospice office. For more information, call (334) 756-8043.

› The West Point Active Life Center is a recreation center for independent adults who are at least 55 years of age. Lunch is provided five days a week for those who are 60 and older. There’s also activities, games, billiards, quilting, exercise classes, trips and every Wednesday, FREE BINGO at 10:30 a.m. EDT. The Active Life Center serves West Point and the surrounding area.
