LaFAYETTE — Mrs. Carolyn Gillenwaters, 84, of LaFayette, Ala. died Saturday September 8, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Gillenwaters was born in Chambers County, Ala. on February 12, 1934 to the late Marcus Smith and the late Gertrude Kendrick Smith. She was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church and had worked 21 years at Playtex and six years at Russell Corp., both in LaFayette, before her retirement.

Graveside services were held Monday September 10, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. CDT at the Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Randall Hamer and Mr. James Kendrick officiating.

Visitation took place at the funeral home Monday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the graveside.

Mrs. Gillenwaters is survived by three children: Mark (Kay) Gillenwaters of Camp Hill, Ala., Vickie (Scooter) Pattillo and Wayne (Sandra) Gillenwaters, all of LaFayette, a cousin who was like a brother, James Kendrick of Wedowee, Ala.,  seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Buddy Gillenwaters.
