WEST POINT — Some on-again, off-again rain interrupted work on Chattahoochee Fuller Center Project (CFCP) Home No. 42 in West Point late last week, but volunteers waited out some delays and successfully met their goal of having the house dried in by the end of the work day on Friday.

“We had to wait out some rainy weather,” said CFCP Executive Director Kim Roberts, “but we did what we wanted to do. Everything will be ready for the volunteers to come back next Monday, Oct. 8 and finish the job on Homes No. 41 and 42.”

Some details will have to be taken care of by next Monday. Chris Bridges has finished the needed electrical work, 4 Seasons Heating & Air did what they needed to do on Monday, and Homer Heard will be coming back to finish roughing in the plumbing.

In a novel approach to a CFCP build, the two work sites will be on different schedules. Volunteers working on No. 41 in Valley will be there from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. EDT. Those at No. 42 in West Point will be there from 7:30 a.m. till 5 p.m. “We are doing this to work around work schedules,” Roberts said. “This will allow some people to be there who couldn’t be otherwise.”

Men from New Birth Ministry have been at both builds. Daniel Watkins and his crew did the decking on the roof at No. 42. Mayor Steve Tramell is the house captain of the West Point build. Also helping out on the project were Charles Hardage and Matt Livingston. The house is being built in memory of Cliff Glover. The new home is going up on East 7th Street, across from a cemetery off MLK Drive.

No. 41 is located on Huguley Road in Valley and will be the fifth new home to go up on a site formerly occupied by a mobile home park. Doug Dewberry is the house captain of the build. He’s assisted by a big group of volunteers from the First Baptist Church of Valley.

“We will be ready to go at both sites next Monday,” Roberts said. “We hope to be finished by Friday, Oct. 12th and to have two home dedication ceremonies the same afternoon.”

Employees of Norbord and Knauf have taken part in the builds. Norbord has donated OSB for the project and Knauf the insulation. Coca-Cola has donated drinks and local churches have prepared food for the work crews.
