MRs. Vivian Elaine Smith Claar

NEWNAN, Ga. — Mrs. Vivian Elaine Smith Claar, 56, of Newnan, Ga. passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at the Emory University Hospital.  Mrs. Claar was born on April 10, 1962, in LaGrange to Calvin Smith and Ellen Barber Phillips.  Her father preceded her in death.

She worked for the Coweta County School System as a paraprofessional at Lee Middle School.  Mrs. Claar lived a life full of compassion, had an enormous love of family, selflessness in doing for others, was crafty, held a deep appreciation for nature and was a Christian. In addition to her mother, Ellen Barber Phillips (Don Phillips), she is survived by her husband, Randy Edward Claar; sons Matthew Claar and Joseph Claar; sisters Lynda Green (Tony) and Cindy Jackson; nieces Annie Morrow (Blake), Emma Brannon (Will), Tanya Jones (Jeff); nephew Lucas Green (Erica) and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct.  23, 2018, at 3  p.m. EDT at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel.  Private family interment services will follow.  The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at  In lieu of flowers, a memorial trust fund is being established.  Higgins LaGrange Chapel, 706-884-7117, is directing.
