LAGRANGE – Last week, Troup County School System (TCSS) members of school councils and business Partners in Education (PIE) members entered Oakhurst Farms to the sound of the Troup High drumline to be honored for their contributions to the successes of the school system.

With over 140 parents, partners, and school system employees in attendance, the event began with a welcome from TCSS Interim Superintendent, Dr. Roy Nichols.

Then, in true tailgate style, school representatives shared their ‘wow factors’ with the group.

Attendees were dancing, chanting, and even listened to a story about bucket fillers.

This was the first combined event of School Council and Partners in Education. Yolanda Stephen, TCSS Public Relations Director said, “Typically, each individual group meets, but after reviewing surveys, we found that both groups wanted to hear directly from school employees outside of typical meeting.

“In late spring, we developed the idea of a tailgate-style celebration so schools and partners can share in a fun, inviting and open setting.” 

Martha Allred, Assistant Manager Human Resources for Seoyon E Hwa and President of the PIE Board of Directors, said, “We host an event each year to thank our business partners because we like to play a part in the success of our schools and students. Partnering with the school system is a way that businesses can give back to the community and see where our time and resources are being spent. “

Ultimately, we also want to see some of those same students come and work for our local businesses when they graduate.”
