LANETT – The next few days will be filled with rain, but nothing severe enough to cause concern, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Jerald Satterwhite said Monday that his office isn’t too concerned with floods in the area since the rain has been on the light to moderate side. However, residents in the Great Valley Area can expect more waves of rain Wednesday and Thursday.

    According to the forecast, Today will see temperatures of about 49 degrees with rain and possible thunderstorms, with a 100 percent chance of precipitation and about a quarter and a half of an inch in rain possible.

Wednesday will have an 80 percent chance of rain for the entire day and Thursday will have a 40 percent chance of rain. 

Although Satterwhite said this office isn’t expecting a flash flood situation because of the gradual nature of the rain, he said there could be ponding in some areas, especially in low drainage areas.

    A flash flood is a rapid rise of water that threatens life and property usually within six hours of the rainfall, but since there have been a few lulls in-between heavy rainfall, the Valley Area isn’t expected to see those levels of precipitation.

    “It is really helping that it isn’t happening all at once,” Satterwhite said. “There are one or two inches happening, but it isn’t happening all at once – there are a few hours between.”

  Even with a little bit of water on the roadways, drivers need to be vigilant. Satterwhite said this weather can still cause slick roads and limited visibility. He says to still plan for extra time when traveling and allow for extra following distance.

By the time Friday rolls around, the sun is supposed to back in the sky with a high of 56 degrees.

Satterwhite also said the rest of the weekend should be sunny with highs in the low 60s.
