LaGRANGE — For the second time in a four-day span, the Valley girls basketball team lost to Troup County.

The performance on Tuesday night, however, resulted in a closer margin, as the Rams lost by 12 points, and not the 32-point margin the team lost by this past Saturday.

“They showed a lot of character tonight, and we’re slowly getting better,” Valley girls head basketball coach George Grimes said.

Troup County’s Amber Gilbert led all scorers in the matchup with 20 points, while Ana Magby led the Rams with 17 on the night.

“Ana had a fairly decent game,” Grimes said. “Overall, throughout the season she’s done a good job, and the ones around her have done a good job. Arteria Florence, our star forward, Kwane [Cofield], Valencia [Bennett], [Anaiya] Hatchett, Emerald [Floyd] and Jasmine [Frazier]. They’ve all done a good job. We just have to continue to grow.”

Star Core and Frazier were the second-leading scorers on Valley, finishing with seven in the effort. Jayla Lancaster also got on the board for the Rams.

The second-leading scorer for the Tigers was Jada Green, who finished with 10 points in Tuesday night’s win for Troup. Aniya Palmer, Moniya Murphy, Darnesheyuna McCullough, Samarria Weldon and Jamariana Martin also got on the board for the Tigers.

Valley travels to Beulah for a rematch with the Bobcats on Thursday, while Troup County hosts Callaway on Saturday.
