Charlotte B. Blasingame is running for the district B seat on the Lafayette City Council.
Blasingame said she will have an open-door policy if elected.
She noted that Mayor Barry Moody recommended for Blasingame to fill the open seat but council members voted to have an election.
Blasingame said she currently serves as executive director of the Essie J. Handy Memorial Association. She said the cemetery is now listed in the Alabama Historical Cemetery Register and that a marker will soon be placed at the entrance of Handy Cemetery.
Blasingame said she is concerned about the improvement of city streets, businesses and community. She said she is looking forward to working with the recreation committee to continue to improve recreational activities for youth and senior citizens.
Blasingame said she is concerned about programs involving senior citizens that are readily available.
She said one of her concerns is improving the Senior Citizens Center.
Blasingame also said she is focused on beautification of LaFayette, believing it’s a top priority to attract potential businesses and residents.
She also serves on the Christmas Festival Committee
Blasingame said she believes her previous experience as a business owner and property manager give her the knowledge of financial assets, policy and procedures to fill the role of councilwoman for District B.
She said if anyone has concerns or questions, she will be accessible at all times.
Blasingame is also a member of the First Baptist Church in LaFayette and serves as Chairman of Membership of the Fayette Rotary Club. She is married to David Blasingame.
