Mr. Howard “Coy” Sorrell

LANETT — Howard “Coy” Sorrell, 76, a lifelong resident of Lanett passed peacefully at Bethany House in Auburn on March 12, 2019. Coy was born in Lanett to the late Glenn and Vernice Sorrell on May 31, 1942. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye B. Sorrell; his two sons, Bart Sorrell of West Point and Andy Sorrell of Lanett and a Granddog’ Dixie Darling Sorrell of Lanett.

Coy was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Waymen and Harold Sorrell.

Coy graduated from Lanett High School as an all-star athlete. He later began his professional career in the field of computer operations management, programming and data analysis with WestPoint Stevens for 28 years, Southern Net for two years and ultimately retiring from Total Systems in Columbus, Georgia having been employed there for 16 years.

Coy was a tremendous sports fan and avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves and Auburn Tigers. He loved to fish and also had a love for cooking. Many in the community have come to know him for the cheese straws he had prepared for people throughout the Valley area.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at East Alabama Medical Center and Bethany House in Auburn for all their great care and compassion.

At the request of the deceased, the family will celebrate his life in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the American Diabetes Association.
