VALLEY —The Valley boys soccer team (1-4) lost 2-0 to Elmore  County (3-5-1)  on Thursday night.

“We were running on ‘E’ the entire game,” Valley boys head soccer coach Cullen Milner said. “It hurt us, we got hit in the mouth by two goals early in the first half.

“We played defensively the entire game. We had lots of unlucky touches,  we put a lot of shots on goal and couldn’t finish it.

Hats off to  Elmore County, they played great defensively.”

Valley sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Millaway made a series of impressive saves throughout the night.

“This is his first year playing goalkeeper, and he did a great job tonight,” Milner said. “I don’t give him enough credit. He’s got pretty sure hands, he did a pretty good job tonight.”

After multiple stops from Millaway, Elmore scored its first goal at the 27-minute mark in the first half.

The opponents then scored its second goal on an empty goal with 16:25 remaining in the half.

“We used a lot of our energy trying to win the ball back,” Milner said. “We lost control of the midfield. In the second half, we tried to put Levi, Cedric and Michael  Davis in the midfield to win it back, and we did, but it was too little, too late.  We couldn’t come back from the two goals, the clock ran out on us.

“What we’re going to try to do is regroup  and get ready for next week’s area match.”

The Rams play their first road game of the season on March 14 against Holtville.

“We still control our destiny,” Milner said. “If we come out and play like we did against Tallassee, even like how we did against Prattville Christian Academy, we definitely   have a good shot at fighting for a playoff spot.”
