The softball postseason for the local AISA programs of Chambers Academy (9-2) and Springwood School (5-21) begins on Monday.

Chambers Academy is finishing a decent regular season, falling just short of the Rebels’ regular-season goal of winning the area, and are now prepared for a fresh start.

“We’ve had a couple of good days of practice,” Chambers Academy head softball coach  Brandi Fuller said. “I think they’re excited. It’s Easter weekend, and I’m giving them Sunday off, but I think we’ll be ready. I think we’ll be ready to play on Monday.”

Chambers  Academy will begin its series against Evangel Christian at 3 p.m. EDT. on Monday afternoon. Monday is scheduled to feature a doubleheader with Game Three, if necessary, slated for Tuesday.

“We’re going to have to hit the ball,” Fuller said. “We’re going to have to keep them off the bases. Don’t put them on with walks and hit pitches. Make sure that we’re hitting the ball and getting our runs together.”

Springwood also finished the regular season as the No. 2 seed in its respective area, and will open up the postseason at home on Monday against Northside at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

“I think everyone is focusing now on what our second season will be like,” Springwood head softball coach Galen Smith said. “I think that we’re a better team than what our record indicates. Our defense has played pretty well. We dropped two against Macon East [on Thursday], but I think that we played error-free ball, it’s just that we ran into a very good hitting team. I think everyone’s looking forward to the opportunity to play in the state tournament.”

The Wildcats have dealt with the injury bug in the final two weeks of the regular season, but Smith said that he believes the lineup changes allowed the chance for Springwood to have more depth on the roster.

With sunny skies projected in the Monday afternoon forecast, the weather should not be a factor in either of series’ scheduled starts.

If the Rebels or Wildcats win their respective series’ to begin the week, then they’ll play in a  regional series beginning on Thursday for a chance to advance and determine their seeding in the state tournament.
