LaFAYETTE — An account has been created at Farmers & Merchants Bank to help with medical expenses for a Chambers County mother and daughter who were seriously injured in a traffic accident on March 21.

An account has been established for Belinda Butler, 57 and Jessi Butler, 27, by members of the Antioch Baptist Church.

The two women were severely injured in a head-on collision at about 8 p.m. on March 21, near the intersection of County Road 28 and Highway 50.

They were taken by helicopter to the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and then later taken to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Jessi Butler sustained a broken leg and broken back in the crash but has been released and is living with a relative in LaGrange, according to church members.

Belinda Butler suffered a crushed left knee, broken leg, broken left hip, crushed sternum and broken ribs in the crash.

Church members say she is at the Spain Rehabilitation Center in Birmingham still recovering.

Those members say before the crash, Belinda Butler did have employment in Opelika but did not receive health insurance through her employer.
