Chattahoochee Riverkeeper will host a series of eight community outings on the West Point Lake Floating Class throughout the spring and fall.

On Thursday, May 23, Riverkeeper will host its Hometown Concert Cruise at Pyne Road Park in LaGrange. The events will have live music from Front Porch Collective and there will be an educational component about Riverkeeper’s role in the middle Chattahoochee River watershed.

On June 1, individuals will have the chance to improve or learn about birding skills during Riverkeeper’s Birding 101 Cruise. Participants will step onboard the West Point Lake Floating Classroom to learn how to identify common birds by sight and call as we cruise the shorelines of West Point Lake. Instructors will share techniques for identifying new birds, recommendations for choosing binoculars, field guides and smartphone apps to enhance the birding experience.

Also on June 1, Riverkeeper will offer an educational outing designed for children. Also, focused on birds, instructors will share techniques for identifying birds, talk about how they can adapt to their environment, and review the negative effects of pollution on the health of birds.

On June 14, Riverkeeper will host an evening sunset cruise on West Point Lake. Music will be provided by David Pippin of Carrollton, Georgia.

All community outings will be departing from Pyne Road Park located at 4481 Roanoke Rd. in LaGrange.
