LANETT — Edward Eugene (Ed) Martin, 88, of Lanett, passed away on May 1, 2019. Ed was born in Montgomery on Aug. 11, 1930, to the late Ernest and Rebecca Martin. He was retired from Bell South after 40 years service in Huntsville, and was a 50-year member of the Lions’ Club. He was past governor of Alabama Lions’ Clubs and also held many other positions. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid reader, and loved to “tinker.” He also had a keen sense of humor and loved strawberry ice cream and Christmas time. He enjoyed volunteering for many different causes especially Camp Askah and other Lion’s Club causes.

Ed was a member of Victory Baptist in Lanett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Rebecca Posey Martin; his sister, Mary Ruth Martin Bryant and niece, Laura Bush.

He is survived by his wife, Polly Martin; daughters Deborah (Daniel) Schnarr and Carol (Bruce) Lushbough and many grandchildren.

The family will greet friends on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 10 a.m. ET at Victory Baptist Church in Lanett. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., also at Victory Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery Annex in Montgomery on May 4, 2019, at 2 p.m. ET. The Rev. Stephen Grubbs will officiate.
