Our view: Best of luck to our all-stars

On Wednesday, the Valley 9 and 10-year-old all-stars will hit the road for Lumberton, North Carolina, where they’ll be competing in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series.

The team will get treated like local heroes when they depart, as the city has organized a send-off at 12:45 p.m. at the Valley Community Center.

The city has forked over more than $10,000 for lodging and uniforms for the team, which is all well-deserved. Others have helped pay for other costs associated with such a long trip through a Facebook fundraiser. More than $5,000 was raised to help pay for lodging for parents and meals while they are on the road.

Anyone who has a child who plays travel baseball or softball knows how costly it can be, and if things go well, the Valley all-stars are in for a several night stay in Lumberton.

As for the team itself, the 12 boys should be extremely proud of what they’ve already accomplished. They’re already undefeated state champions, and there’s plenty of optimism about accomplishing a whole lot more in the next few days.

We wish the team luck as it continues along this amazing journey.

We hope a large contingent of fans is able to make the trip, but there will be hundreds of others following the games from Chambers County. This community is cheering for you every step of the way.

Hopefully, in a week, we’ll all be celebrating a World Series championship in Valley.
