Mr. William “Roy” Long — 1940-2019

Mr. William “Roy” Long, 79, of Lanett, passed away on July 27 in Lanett. Roy was born in Lynn, Alabama on May 19, 1940, to the late Arnold and Pearl Long.

Roy was a member of the Lanett Church of Christ. He also served in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1962. After the Navy, he began his working career with the Alabama State Troopers in 1964 and retired in 1992. He then joined the US Corp. of Engineers in 1992 as a Park Ranger, retiring in 2005. After retirement from the Corp of Engineers, he joined the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department as Courthouse security. Roy loved riding horses and working with kids at the Horse Shows. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Terry Long; son, Mike Long; brother in law, Gene Rutledge; and father in law, Jack Craft.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Virginia Craft Long; sister, Lucy Rutledge; mother in law, Mary Craft; sister in law, Lori (Johnny) Bolton; son, David Long; niece, Lisa Melton; two very special nieces, Anna and Jenna Bolton; and two special godchildren, Kennedy and Aiden McCoy, along with many other friends and extended family members.

The family will greet friends at Bluffton Funeral Services on July 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 pm EDT. Funeral Services will be held on July 30 at Lanett Church of Christ at 3 p.m. EDT. Graveside services will follow the funeral service at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett.

The Rev. Kerry Knight will officiate along with Marshall McCoy, Johnny Bolton, and Steve Jenkins.
