Sara Nevels Richey, 96, of Valley, passed away peacefully in her home in the early morning hours of July 14. 

She was born April 29, 1923, in Camilla, Georgia. She was one of seven children of W.B. and Carrie Nevels, of Sale City, Georgia. Richey was a graduate of GSCW. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught during WWII and many years following in the state of Georgia. She lovingly served others most of her years. Preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings, Richey is survived by her sons, Hugh Lee Richey (Sylvia), of Roanoke, and Mark E. Richey, of Pelham; grandsons, Nathan Richey, of Fairbanks, Arkansas, and Daniel Richey (Juliana), of Hoover.

A memorial service will be held in the First Baptist Church Shawmut on July 18 at 2 p.m. EDT.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. EDT.

Graveside service will be held on July 20 in Sale City, Georgia. The time is to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Shawmut.
