Sarah King Johnson, 88, of Atlanta, passed away on March 13. She is survived by her sons, Clifford Paul Johnson, of Atlanta, and Robert Allen Johnson and his wife, Deborah Robinson Johnson, of Rocky Face, Georgia; three grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson (Levani), Jacob Johnson and Anna Johnson Devlin (Ryan); and two great-grandchildren, Lillian Tighe Devlin and Bailey Robert Devlin. Her husband, Edward Paul Johnson, predeceased her on Sept. 30, 2013.

Born in Copperhill, Tennessee, the daughter of James Bryan and Merle Beavers King, Sarah graduated from Young Harris College and was first employed by Citizens & Southern (C&S) Bank in Atlanta. After moving with her family to West Point in 1957, Sarah was employed by the First National Bank of West Point for several years. Sarah and Ed were active members of the First United Methodist Church of West Point where Sarah served for more than 35 years in various capacities with the United Methodist Women (UMW) and the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF). In addition, Sarah had a special interest in the Valley Haven School where she served as a volunteer transporting rural students to and from classes. In 1993, Sarah and Ed moved to a mountain home in Union County, Georgia, where they lived until their final illness.

In childhood, sacrifices were a necessity for Sarah. Throughout life, however, she gave generously and unselfishly to all. As a mother, wife, and friend, she was and continues to be, a blessing to all she loved. She will be sorely missed.
