Troup County has again approved the county’s millage rate, after going through the process for a second time.

The second approval was required due to a legal notice not publishing as planned in the Troup County News, currently the county’s legal organ.

The millage rate will remain the same, but the Troup County Board of Commissioners had to vote on two resolutions during its work session Thursday to maintain the millage rate. The resolutions passed unanimously. The commission previously approved the same millage rate on July 2.

According to Troup County Chief Finance Officer Buddy Cashwell, the county submitted the legal notice to the Troup County News. But when it did not publish correctly, county staff worked to correct the issue.

Commissioner Morris Jones asked if the county would face a penalty for turning in the completed packet of information late due to the missed advertisement. Tax Commissioner Shane Frailey said the county initially turned everything in early, so there would not be a penalty.
