Mrs. Hannah Potts Boyd

Mrs. Hannah Potts Boyd, of Lanett, died on Sept. 8 at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for Sept. 13 at noon from Pilgrim Baptist Church in Lanett, the Rev. Frederick James, Ph.D., Pastor/Officiant and the Rev. Reginald Wright, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.

Mrs. Boyd was educated in the Lanett City Schools graduating from Lanier High School in the Class of 1943. Upon graduating from high school, she enrolled and graduated from Apex School of Beauty and Culture in Atlanta. She and her sister, Louisa, owned and operated Potts Beauty Shop No. 1 & No. 2 in Lanett, which was the first African American salon established in the Valley area in the 1940s. Her career as a beautician spanned for about 50 years. Her survivors include her granddaughter and grandson whom she reared as her own children, Zonnie Boyd Henderson and Jarian Henderson; one daughter, Barbara (Willie) Andrews; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Brenda Potts, Janice Burton, Henry Perry, Arthur Perry, Andre Perry, Marcellus Potts, Arthur (Desiree) Potts and Betty Body; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louisiana Potts, Bettye Shamel, Hugh Bledsoe and Byron Bledsoe; other relatives and friends.
